So continuing my Cuba guide and recap here is the coast, Cayo Coco….Yesterday there was Havana, tomorrow Paradise Part Dos.
So once we had done Havana we flew back to Cayo Coco (at an ungodly time of the morning – 2am we were up!). The taxi ride from Melia Cohiba, Havana to the airport was leg – end – dary. The driver realised it was 2.30am, that we were english and put on a CD of power ballads. We sang. Loudly. To Meatloaf & Bonnie Tyler (Every now and then I fall apart), Chris De Burgh (lady in red) and many other brilliant power ballads. Charlie was not amused!
The flight back was easy, the transfer quick and before we knew it we were looking out of our room balcony, tossing on our swimming stuff and heading down to the pool.

We decided that the beach was the place to check out, we wandered the resort, then headed down and Charlie had his first experience of playing in the sea. BTW the outfit he’s wearing is a UV suit and it’s 50SPF – his tan lines are amazing, he’s literally white as can be where the suit was. Highly recommended.

My view was completely acceptable…

Charlie’s favourite bit about Cayo Coco has got to be the opportunities for swimming. He had a seriously good time in that pool and in the sea.
He also went to the kids club a couple of times which gave us time to walk on the beach and exert ourselves in the boiling heat doing this…
So elegant and gazelle like aren’t we? It was super super hot, we sweated a considerable amount. That made for the doughnuts for breakfast right?
The next day we took to the water, hired a speedboat for the day and I drove it to a place to dock and snorkel, tropical fish a plenty and a cheeky lobster under a ledge. I should say driving that little thing was terrifying. The Cuban safety talk went something like “This makes it go forward, this makes it stop, don’t use reverse you won’t need it, you can’t tip the boat, it’s never happened before”. It was the kind of thing that was terrifying by being so fun at the same time. I squeeled a lot.
Even Charlie had a go with the old snorkel, although he can swim he wasn’t keen on being out of his depth for too long but liked riding on our backs back to the boat! We had full snorkel gear on, flippers included so it wasn’t too hard.
The water was incredibly warm and lovely, plus there were these weird creatures like bit rats by the side of the dock, they were pretty tame and liked banana’s. We all posed for our best duck faces.
It was such a fun day out though, Charlie enjoyed himself so much and we got to drive a speedboat!
That’s it for today or this post is going to become far too epic! Tomorrow, the most beautiful beach I think I’ve ever seen. What’s your favourite holiday memory?

Rebecca, this looks ABSOLUTELY amazing. I’m not a huge beach fan (though have two gorgeous ones just an hour north and south of where I live)… but these photos look idyllic!
Deb
Holy CRAP I am so jealous I am about to pass out. This place looks absolutely *amazing* !! Lucky you!
OK wow…. Cuba is SO now on my list of tropical destinations! (And from Canada, Cuba is actually an affordable destination!)
I can’t get over how gorgeous it all is – it looks like you had an amazing vacation.
There were A LOT of canadians there, top tip, take your insulated mug thing with you, they will fill it up at the bar with whatever you like and it’s all inclusive
